New Public Enemy album is a quite surprise. After this years pretty mislead album “Loud Is Not Enough” as self released, they have rutirned to Def Jam. And it made totally different light on the whole project and the album.
With a little help from their old school friends Chuck D and Flavor Flav have burried the axes and found a reason to cast possibly the best tracks last 20 years, since “He Got Game” soundtrack for same titled Spike Lee`s movie. The group’s 15th studio album is somewhat of a party in the face of disaster. They call upon pals like Cypress Hill, George Clinton, Ice-T, Nas, Black Thought of The Roots to join the fight.
With help from Run-DMC and former Def Jam label mates Mike D and Ad-Rock of the Beastie Boys, the group take a trip down memory lane on ‘Public Enemy Number Won’. Complete with the Bomb Squad’s galvanising sample flip of Fred Wesley and The J.B.’s ‘Blow Your Head’, the group rework their classic 1987 track ‘Public Enemy No.1’.
Not every track sounds like worth being put on the new album, but fuck it, you gotta give peeps some praise.
This feels like the background music of a reality we´re living that´s gonna drive us to complete mayhem and annihilation. Sometimes you gotta destroy the system, to rebuild and get a better system. R.I.P. Old America, bring the New America.
