Brit alter pop darlings Manic Street Preachers have released new the second track from their forthcoming album The Ultra Vivid Lament. ‘The Secret He Had Missed’ is yet another pop music catch of three and a half minutes of shimmering melody about imagining dialogue between brother and sister artists Augustus & Gwen John, who were divaded by blood and driven apart by divergent lifestyles.
Lead role with Bradfield leads Julia Cumming (Sunflower Bean) which reminds on a tactics band has used on recovering their own song “You Stole The Sun From My Heart” turned on “Your Love Alone Is Not Enough” with Nina Persson (Cardigans).
New song sounds pretty like ‘Everything Must Go’s’ track ‘The Girl Who Wanted To Be God’, and it features tumbling ABBA-esque piano line. The video stars actress Aimee Ffion Edwards (Peaky Blinders/The Detectorists/Skins) and was directed by the band’s long-time visual collaborator Kieran Evans.
The band will release their 14th studio album ‘The Ultra Vivid Lament’ on 3rd September 2021 on Columbia/Sony and the new track is the follow up to radio hit ‘Orwellian’. Musically, ‘The Ultra Vivid Lament’ is inspired by a formative years record box (ABBA, post-Eno Roxy, the Bunnymen, Fables-era REM, Lodger) though the end result could only be the unique union of James Dean Bradfield, Nicky Wire and Sean Moore.
