Penelope Cruz and Antonio Banderas are Spain’s biggest Hollywood names to date have had just two minutes on screen together, and it was in the opening scene of the film “I’m So Excited” back in 2013. But it has changed. Official Competition is a comedy produced by The Mediapro Studio, with RTVE, TV3 and Orange España.
Its a story that begins with a billionaire businessman deciding to make a movie that leaves his mark on history and so he hires filmmaker Lola Cuevas (Cruz), Hollywood hearthrob Félix Rivero (Banderas) and radical theater man Iván Torres (Oscar Martínez) as the win win combination that actually can not work together.
Directed by Mariano Cohn and Gastón Duprat, written by the directors and Andrés Duprat, produced by Mediapro head Jaume Roures and the executive producers are Laura Fernández Espeso, Javier Mendez, Javier Pons at The Mediapro Studio, plus Banderas, Cruz and Martínez.
Buena Vista International will handle theatrical distribution in Spain, and Star Distribution releases in Latin America. “Official Competition” is expected to be one of Spain’s biggest movie releases of the year.
